For my English-speaking friends

The Wild Horses are a Spanish Country & Americana Music band that was formed in Madrid in 2011. Since then, like any band, they have evolved in terms of both their line-up and personnel. While some members, such as Rafa Aguilar, aka “Eagle Eye”, have been there from the very beginning, others have joined the band more recently or have moved on.

Today, the band consists of Rafa Aguilar, aka “Eagle Eye” (guitar and vocals), David “Mad” Mayer (guitar and vocals), Juan Carlos Fuguet, aka Johnny The Kid (electric guitar), Pedro López, “Pedro Mandolin” (mandolin), Jonathan Colombo (pedal steel guitar), M.A. Varela, aka Papa Dave (drums), and M “X” (bass), as I have “not yet” managed to find out his name...

Since the band was formed, they have released several records: Americaña (2014), Six Pack Plus (2017), Stampede (2019), Quarantunes (2020, recorded during lockdown), and this year (2026), The Last Bullet.

Named Best Spanish Americana Music Band in 2013, they are firmly rooted in a form of very rootsy American rock, with strong influences from country music.

They are also very much a band that believes in sharing, and on their records — and certainly during their live shows — they enjoy inviting and surrounding themselves, as they did on Six Pack… Plus, with friends, collaborators and well-known names from their musical world, each contributing their own instrument or talent: Javier Vargas (Vargas Blues Band), Paula Rojo, Javier Andreu (La Frontera), Nat Simons, Chisum, the All4gospel choir, and Kacho Casal (Burning). The same spirit can be found on ** Stampede, which was recorded live**, featuring Ramón Arroyo (Los Secretos), Susan Santos, Paula Rojo, Virginia Maestro, Suso Díaz, and many others.

In 2020, ** QuaranTunes was** recorded week after week by each member of the band from their own homes. Covid-19 made it necessary! And, as always, there were plenty of guests: Nacho Campillo (Tam Tam Go!), Virginia Maestro, Dany Rock Daniels, and Lico Ochoa (Mexico).

At the beginning of 2024, they announced their separation after twelve years of activity, probably due to differences in outlook and ambitions, a desire to explore other things and pursue new projects, while also acknowledging that the music market had become increasingly difficult for their particular “style” in the face of other influences and trends such as reggaeton, rap and so-called “urban” music.

But life sometimes has wonderful surprises in store. They received a call from SkyShowtime to perform at the Telefónica Building on Madrid’s Gran Vía, at Espacio Movistar, for the launch of the new season of the hit series Yellowstone.

They jumped at the opportunity to give the adventure another try together. They returned with a new energy and a renewed repertoire, which they committed to black vinyl in 2026 under the name The Last Bullet.

Finally, we had the opportunity to see them at the Country Festival de Craponne / Arzon that same summer of 2026, and not only listen to them but also capture their dynamic show in several dozen photographs, a selection of which I am sharing with you here.

It was also a wonderful way to close the programme of the 2026 edition of this historic French festival, which manages every year to offer us a fresh, dusted-off vision of our favourite music.

As far as I am concerned, music makes me vibrate and leads me to experience the artist or the band through my photographs. Today, I need both for my perception of the artist and the show to feel complete. And even if, from time to time, I let my photographic “weapon” hang at the end of my hand, simply letting my eyes rest on the moment, it allows my brain and my heart to pulse with the sounds being offered.

This is how I experience music today, and with The Wild Horses and the other bands at this festival, I enjoyed some truly wonderful moments of happiness!
