Même s'il a actuellement (juillet 2026) cinq albums à son actif produit plutôt sur des labels mineurs (Forty Below Records 2014 à 2020 pour les disques «Ephemeral », « There is no map », « Concrete and Mud » et enfin « Gettin by on Gettin Down » puis Blue Élan Records 2023 à maintenant « On the Ride Here » et « Southern Boogie »,
De ses disques et principalement des derniers en date mes titres favoris sont : Lucretia, Cruisin, Pack It Up, On my Way, Bye Your Side, Medecin Man, Thunderbird Hotel et More.

« The same old bullshit don’t make the grass green »

(For my English-speaking friends)
My Vision...

Sam Morrow is, in my view, still an emerging artist, despite having been in the business for around ten years. As of July 2026, he has released six albums, mostly through independent labels: Forty Below Records, from 2014 to 2020, for Ephemeral, There Is No Map, Concrete and Mud and Gettin’ by on Gettin’ Down, followed by Blue Élan Records, from 2023 to the present, for On the Ride Here and Southern Boogie.
This “young” musician, now around 34, was born in Houston, Texas, where he grew up and, as he puts it, went down the wrong path, falling into addiction. He eventually came to terms with his situation and entered a treatment programme that took him to the West Coast, around Los Angeles.
He has always loved music and has been writing songs for many years. He first made his mark in a more Americana-oriented style, but — and this is perhaps even more surprising — on his latest album, produced in Nashville, he decided to make a major turn and plunge headfirst into Southern Rock, a blend of Country and Blues with a strong Rock edge. You only have to look at his band — electric guitar, bass and drums — accompanying Sam on his own electric guitar to understand the direction he has taken.
Unfortunately, I haven't yet been able to find the names of the musicians accompanying him on tour. But I haven't given up hope: I have just sent Sam a message asking him for this information... wait and see!
Among his records, and particularly his most recent releases, my favourite tracks are Lucretia, Cruisin’, Pack It Up, Thunderbird Hotel and More, as well as On My Way, By Your Side and Medicine Man. The tracks in bold are from his latest album, those in italics from the previous one, and the others are singles.
Sam also says he owes a great deal to his partner, his childhood sweetheart, whom he eventually reunited with and who helped him enormously to become — and remain — clean, something he has now maintained for 15 years.
Life is sometimes like that: it can take so much away from us, often through our own mistakes, but it can also offer moments of grace and infinite happiness.

Musically, he is extremely grateful to Michael Anderson. Sam recalls:
“Michael was really demanding. Before, I could more or less get by with my voice, singing loudly or reaching for high notes, but Michael didn't care about that at all. He would tell me: ‘You have to say something that means something to you and to the person listening to you.’”
And if we take a closer look, it is indeed on his first album, Ephemeral, that Sam Morrow gives us an uncompromising diary of addiction and the recovery process.
One song in particular deserves our attention: “Green”, which includes the following line:
“The same old bullshit don’t make the grass green.”
A French translation could be: “Les mêmes vieilles conneries ne rendent pas l’herbe plus verte.”
His journey, from song to song and album to album, has helped him grow over the years, becoming happier both on stage and in everyday life. You can really feel this when you see him perform.
Admittedly, the conditions were far from ideal when we saw him at the Country Festival de Craponne-sur-Arzon: it had rained heavily, and the rain was still falling during his show. But the energy and the sheer joy of giving everything they had were unmistakably there, both for Sam and his musicians.
And you can see it quite simply in our photographs...
